This summer, David and I were lucky enough to plan a few trips around his convention schedule. When San Francisco was one of the options, we thought it would be a great reason to visit a new city. Now, I would never consider myself a fashion blogger, but if there is one piece of advice I can share when visiting San Francisco – wear comfortable tennis shoes. The entire city it one giant hill and you are constantly on an upward climb. Flying from Chicago to San Francisco was quick and easy. We found a one room AirBnb right by Little Italy in Telegraph Hill. It was the perfect spot to be within walking distance of great restaurants and famous landmarks. We had 3 days to explore the city and we were excited.
Day 1 Climbing Hills in San Francisco
We walked around the corner from our Airbnb and went to grab David coffee at HITW. With coffee in hand, we walked over to Lombard St – which was a straight incline – to see it’s famous zigzag street. It was surrounded by hydrangeas and people. We walked along the steps on the side before we headed down towards the pier to find a place for breakfast. We stumbled upon Eight AM, which was this little hole in the wall with delicious food. We were able to sit outside and enjoy the sunshine.
After breakfast, we walked around Fisherman’s Warf, Pier 39, and Hayes St. I loved being able to see some of the spots that we’re shown on my favorite movie, Princess Diaries. After walking around, we grabbed lunch at Souvla – this yummy Greek Style Street Food hot spot. Hayes St. is close to the Painted Ladies and Full House House. So we wandered around and found both hot spots – but no one was at the Full House home, I thought that there would be more. So we got to take a great photo out front.
Afterwards, we walked down towards the Palace of Fine Arts Theatre and then grabbed chocolate from Ghiradelli Square. We headed back home with heavy feet – I was exhausted – and freshened up before going to dinner at Park Tavern. After dinner, we walked around and grabbed another drink before heading home and going to bed.
Day 2 With Some Friends
The next morning we woke up pretty early and grabbed breakfast at The Original Joe’s in Little Italy. It was delicious and because the sun was shining, we were able to sit outside. We were meeting up with my college roommate, Gianna, and her fiancé, Andrew, downtown so shortly after we headed back to our apartment. We walked back down to the pier and grabbed lunch at Boudin Cafe and walked over to the park that overlooked the bay to eat. Then we walked to the Painted Ladies – which was a long walk and I don’t recommend- lol we probably should have Ubered but it gave us all a chance to catch up. After gazing for a bit, we we’re back on Hayes St and grabbed drinks to celebrate our engagements at Anina Patio. Then we went to the famous Smuggler’s Cove Tiki Bar, which was so cool! As we sat in the basement, we came up with the plan to grab dinner at Don Pistos – a little texmex restaurant with a lot of amazing dishes. We ended up getting a mix of plates to share. Once dinner wrapped up, David had a bar we could walk to to grab a drink. Long story short, we ended up walking to a couple bars that were closed. Until finally we came upon Cafe Zeotrope. Unfortunately, they were also on their last call. So we said our goodbyes and called it a night. Hopefully if we are able to go back to San Fran, we are able to make this a stop on our list.
Day 3 In The Woods
On our final day, we woke up rather early to get a full day of exploration in before our flight. We had made a parking reservation at Muir Woods the prior night. The park is a 20-30 minute drive from the city. It was a foggy, brisk morning as we went into the winding hills across the bay. We arrived around 8 am and spoke with the Park Ranger about the best trail option for us. We ventured into the park and wandered through the Redwoods. It was the best way to start the morning. The air was so clean and everything was green. It was incredible to stand near the tall Redwoods that had been there for hundreds and hundreds of years. We ended up completing a 5 mile loop before we headed to a small town, Mill Valley, grabbing breakfast at Kitchen Sunnyside.
We drove back towards San Fran and stopped by the Golden Gate Bridge. Unfortunately, because of the fog, we we’re able to see much. When we made it to the other side of the bay, we still had some time before our flight to stop at Land’s End and see the Land’s End Lambrynth.
It was an incredible trip and we can’t wait to go back to explore the North West soon!
